Don Hogan ‘80
Don Hogan received a bachelor’s degree in social work from Daemen College and then went on to attend C.W. Post Long Island University, where he earned a dual master’s degree in social work and mental health counseling. He also received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Antioch College.
Based out of the Correctional Facility in Troy N.Y., Hogan has served for more than 25 years as director of forensic mental health services for Rensselaer County and supervises residents in forensic rotation at the correctional facility. An adjunct faculty member at the Zone 5 Police Academy and Albany Medical Center, he also teaches throughout New York State in the areas of suicide prevention for jails and lock-ups for the state Office of Mental Health and Division of Criminal Justice Services.
In addition, Hogan is Rensselaer County co-coordinator of the Emotional Disturbed Persons Response Team, which is comprised of police officers who deal in crisis situations, and serves on the Albany Police Critical Incident Debriefing Team.
Outside his profession, Hogan is a football coach at Watervliet High School, which during his coaching tenure has been a three-time class “C’” state champion team, and he previously coached girl’s track that had 10 appearances at state meets. He is also former coach of the Troy Fighting Irish Semi-Pro Football Team.
