Daemen University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a trunk or treat event at Royal Park on Oct. 31 to spread Halloween cheer in the neighborhood.
Close to 100 student athletes participated, including the entire men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, and women’s basketball teams, as well as athletes from the men’s and women’s tennis teams, men’s and women’s cross country team, and the women’s bowling team.
They decorated 15 cars in various themes, including Minions, Cookie Monster, Dunkin’, Buffalo Bills, Monster, Shrek, NASCAR, Toy Story, mummies and more, and handed out candy, stickers, and temporary tattoos to trick-or-treaters.
Athletes were drawn to participate in this festive event to give back to the community. Women’s lacrosse athlete Adison Pollutro said the highlight of the night was “seeing the little kids dressed up and so excited when they saw the cars decorated.” Men’s volleyball athlete and SAAC President Bradyn Winters wanted to volunteer to “be a part of putting smiles on the kids’ faces when they saw the athletes and to create a positive image of Daemen athletics.”
