Daemen President Gary A. Olson appointed a Daemen Hall Usage Committee to investigate potential uses of the second floor of Daemen Hall.
The committee — chaired by Dr. Michael Brogan, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost — includes Melissa Peterson, executive director, RIC and library services; Tiffany Shadden, registrar; Dr. Greg Ford, founding dean of the Scott Bieler College of Health Professions; Dr. Heather Stassen, founding dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education; Dr. Lisa Rafalson, founding dean of the College of Health, Human Sciences, and Business; Melaine Kenyon, vice president for information technology and chief information officer; Dr. Mimi Steadman, vice president for strategic initiatives; Tiffany Hamilton
, vice president for institutional equity & belonging; Dr. Kerry Spicer, vice president for student affairs; and Dr. Jay Wendland, professor of political science and department chair and vice president, Daemen University faculty senate.
Key spaces on the first floor of Daemen Hall were refurbished during the summer to create an inviting bistro for receptions, meetings, and events, and transform the theater into an auditorium for academic use. This fall, Daemen Hall hosted classes, new student orientation, the Distinguished Alumni Awards, and the Dean’s List ice cream social.
The committee is currently assessing additional first-floor space, including former green rooms and storage areas, as well as the entire second floor — including the addition of an elevator for accessibility — to determine how best to redefine these areas for potential instructional and student spaces, offices, or other uses. They will present their recommendations to the President and his cabinet for final consideration in the coming months.
“I am excited to lead the usage committee in reimagining the layout of Daemen Hall,” said Provost Brogan. “The recommended renovations we identify will enable the university to create additional space for gathering, learning, and collaborating and will make a significant impact on our institutional offerings.”
The Daemen Hall renovations are a key priority of the recently launched comprehensive campaign — Moving Forward: The Campaign for Daemen’s Future.
