Daemen University’s Veterans Service Team and Student Veterans Association (SVA) Club welcomed National Equine Institute of Growth through Healing (NEIGH) to campus on April 24.
Miniature and full-sized horses were on the north lawn, giving faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to pet, walk, and interact with the animals and learn more about equine-assisted therapy.
“We were thrilled to welcome NEIGH to Daemen’s campus to raise awareness for equine-assisted therapy,” said veteran Tony DeRomanis, Community Liaison at Daemen. “So many veterans face mental health challenges that impact their wellbeing. NEIGH is a special organization that understands the unique healing power of the unspoken connection between humans and horses.”
NEIGH specializes in aiding the post-traumatic growth of veterans, active military, and first responders, with programs designed to aid in the prevention of suicide among veterans who experience PTSD, bereavement, anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges.
“I want to give a special thanks to the SVA and all the work they put into leading this event,” added DeRomanis. “They were instrumental in its success.”
