The new space will offer authentic hospital-related experiences for our students as well as the ability for community organizations to utilize the space for professional development training.

These funds, combined with other donor gifts, have allowed for the creation of a permanent home for recently acquired health profession technology,” said Elizabeth Wright, Associate Vice President for Academic Relations.

Earlier this year, the student experience in the CILS was already enhanced through the purchase of a high fidelity simulation manikin, complete with medical equipment and supplies to outfit an ICU hospital room, and Point of Care Ultrasound units, all thanks to a donation from Scott Bieler – a member of the university’s board of trustees and the president and CEO of West Herr Automotive Group.

The CILS, which opened in 2020, has had over 200 students from Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Social Work, and Nurse Practitioner programs participate in a simulation experience last academic year.

Tony Surace, Executive Director of the CILS noted, “I am extremely appreciative of the teamwork involved to get this project completed this past summer.  Special thanks to Mr. Scott Bieler,  Carmina Wood Design, Lake Side Contracting Co., Daemen IT and Facilities Services  teams, Elizabeth Wright, Dean Greg Ford, and faculty.”

The CILS is also available for professional development and training for community partners.  Interested community members should contact Tony Surace at cils@daemen.edu.
